CREATIVE NATIONS

Creative Nations
A Commitment to Indigenous Artist Empowerment.

In 2021, The Dairy Arts Center moved beyond performative land acknowledgments by permanently dedicating a portion of its building to Native arts and artists. Founded by a collective of artists—JayCee Beyale (Navajo/Diné), Danielle SeeWalker (Húŋkpapȟa Lakȟóta), Kelly Holmes (Cheyenne River Lakota), Walt Pourier (Oglala Lakota), and Tanaya Winder (Duckwater Shoshone)—this space, now known as the Creative Nations gallery, provides Indigenous artists full autonomy in how it is curated and utilized, affirming their right to self-representation and cultural sovereignty. In April 2025, the gallery became a sub-program of Create áyA, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering marginalized artists and revitalizing Indigenous cultural practices through art, education, and community-centered experiences. The gallery now presents a rotating program of exhibitions featuring both established and emerging works, and a rotation of shows curated by young aspiring artists who are interested in pursuing curatorial practice as a professional career.
