SUMMARY:The Summer Book | Dec 26-30
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nNine-year-old Sophia (Emily Matthews) spends the summers at her family’s seasonal home on a tranquil isle in the Gulf of Finland\, but this will be the first summer without her mother. Her father (Anders Danielsen Lie) remains numbed by grief\, while her grandmother (Glenn Close) guides her on a giddy\, winding path towards young adulthood. With a sense of infinite possibility and a tender regard for the wonders of the natural world\, Sophia and her grandmother explore the terrain\, celebrate midsommar\, and test the limits of faith in the face of life’s many storms. Adapted from Tove Jansson’s beloved novel\, The Summer Book is a delicate account of growing up and growing old\, beautifully filmed on 16mm in majestic natural light. SUMMARY:The Tale of Silyan | Dec 26-30
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nFrom the Oscar-nominated director of ‘Honeyland’ comes a poignant and visually arresting documentary set in the heart of rural Macedonia. Nikola\, a farmer grappling with the harsh realities of new government policies\, finds himself unable to sell his land or crops. When his family leaves in search of a better life abroad\, Nikola takes a job as a landfill attendant\, where he encounters the injured white stork Silyan. As he nurses the bird back to health\, an unlikely bond forms between man and animal. The result is a deeply moving film that touches on climate change\, economic migration\, resilience and the quiet power of connection. (Tamara Kotevska\, 2025\, North Macedonia\, 1:21\, PG)

SUMMARY:My Sunshine | Dec 18-21
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nOne winter on the Japanese island of Hokkaido\, a young boy named Takuya has resigned himself to the fact that he’s the worst player on his ice hockey team. While practicing\, he becomes transfixed by the figure skaters who share the ice rink\, particularly Sakura\, a rising star from Tokyo. Her coach\, Arakawa\, takes an interest in Takuya\, seeing himself in the young boy. He pairs the two up and trains them as a competitive ice-dancing duo. Although tentative with each other at first\, the kids eventually grow closer and form a deep bond with their supportive coach. But as the winter continues\, unspoken feelings begin to surface and the harmony the trio once knew begins to falter. “A gentle\, unassuming film about the pain and misdirection that can arise from young love\,” (RogerEbert.com)\, Hiroshi Okuyama’s sophomore feature MY SUNSHINE is a heartwarming coming-of-age drama buoyed by its picturesque cinematography and beautiful score. SUMMARY:Four Rational People | Dec 18-21
DESCRIPTION:Screenshot\n TICKETS \nGoethe once said that a string quartet is like “a conversation between FOUR RATIONAL PEOPLE\,” and for the members of the Emerson String Quartet\, that conversation is coming to a bittersweet ending as they embark on their final season of a fifty-year history that includes 9 GRAMMY Awards and thousands of concerts. Interweaving vivid memories of the Emerson Quartet’s past with delicate observations of life on the road in the weeks and days before disbanding\, FOUR RATIONAL PEOPLE explores the group’s difficult decision to walk away from the things that they cherish most in life: the music they play and the friends they hold dear. At once a frank examination of the tyranny of aging and a cri de cœur to pass the torch to a new generation of artists\, FOUR RATIONAL PEOPLE culminates with one final Emerson Quartet performance for the ages\, leaving all to ponder what happens to us after the final curtain. SUMMARY:Checkpoint Zoo | Dec 10-13
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nA gripping documentary set during the early days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine\, when Kharkiv’s beloved Feldman Ecopark Zoo found itself caught in the crossfire between advancing Russian forces and Ukrainian defenders. Home to over 5\,000 animals\, the approaching front line left the zoo’s creatures trapped in their cages with little food and water\, facing starvation and increasing danger as the Russian army approached. The zoo’s founder\, Oleksandr Feldman\, posted a desperate plea to social media asking for help. Miraculously\, the post went viral\, and zoos from across Ukraine and all of Europe volunteered to house the remaining animals. Encouraged by the response\, the zoo staff and these volunteers resolved to do the impossible – they would sneak back into Feldman Ecopark and evacuate thousands of animals\, including many dangerous predators\, and bring them to safety. In doing so\, they put themselves in incredible danger\, risking their lives to save innocent animals. (Joshua Zeman\, 2024\, UK\, 1:43\, NR)

SUMMARY:Chainsaws Were Singing | Dec 12
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nMaria is having one of the worst days of her life. Her parents died. Her dog\, too. She was fired from her job. She was beaten by thugs in the street. But all of her troubles melt away when she locks eyes with Tom in the midst of his suicide attempt. Soon\, the gobsmacked young lovers are hand-in-hand\, bounding across sun-dappled meadows and expressing their undying love through song. Their courtship is cut short when a spree killer with a chainsaw and his own musical backstory takes Maria captive to feed his grotesque family of cannibals\, consisting of his overbearing mother\, artistically inclined little brother\, and incestuous cousins Pepe and Kevin. Vowing to come to his lady’s rescue\, Tom teams up with Jaan\, a goodhearted\, goofy passerby with nothing but time on his hands and a song in his heart. The two head deep into the woods\, embarking on a madcap quest full of blood\, guts\, and toe-tapping show tunes. Along the way\, they’ll encounter some trigger-happy\, pastry-loving cops\, a helpful little hedgehog\, a shitload of exploding cars\, and a cult that worships a talking fridge full of nauseating contents. Nearly 10 years in the making\, this bastard child of Stephen Sondheim and Lloyd Kaufman is an utterly indescribable Estonian odyssey. (Sander Maran\, 2024\, Estonia\, 1:57\, NR)

SUMMARY:Orwell: 2+2=5 | Dec 3-7
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nGeorge Orwell was one of the most radical and visionary authors of the 20th Century\, whose 1940s novels\, such as 1984 and Animal Farm\, foretold a chilling\, all-too-believable authoritarian future that has become scarily prescient in our modern era. Acclaimed director Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro)\, working in collaboration with the Orwell Estate\, seamlessly interweaves historical clips\, readings from Orwell’s diary\, cinematic references\, and dynamic modern day footage to craft not only a definitive portrait of the writer himself\, but an entirely fresh take on how remarkably relevant and prophetic his work has become. SUMMARY:The Librarians | Nov 26-30
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nNov 26-30 \nLibrarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy and our First Amendment Rights. As they well know\, controlling the flow of ideas means control over communities. \nIn Texas\, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate\, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of a large-scale coordinated extremist movement fueling the censorship efforts. \nDespite facing harassment\, threats\, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale. As the bickering group drives around Tehran with the captive\, they must confront how far to take matters into their own hands with their presumed tormentor. From master filmmaker Jafar Panahi comes a searing moral thriller that engages with complex ideas about the uncertainty of the truth and the choice between revenge and mercy\, as Panahi turns his personal dissonance into a profound and galvanizing work of art. SUMMARY:Mistress Dispeller | Nov 19-23
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nNov 19-23 \nIn China\, a new industry has emerged devoted to helping couples stay married in the face of infidelity.
