SUMMARY:Sunlight
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nAug 13-17 \nThis hilariously dark and unconventional love story\, presented by Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap)\, has a surprisingly authentic emotional core. In New Mexico\, Roy\, a dysfunctional Radio host is pulled from the noose by Monkey-clad Jane\, who is escaping a controlling relationship with her dead mum’s toyboy husband. Together they dig up the grave of Roy’s blackbelt-in-dipshit dad to retrieve the watch they hope will fund a new life built on a shaky dream. This is beauty and the beast in reverse. Love grows between Roy and Jane\, who finds a ballsy new voice from within the fur but feels she can’t come out until she is truly loved. (Nina Conti\, 2025\, USA\, 1:36\, treat as R)

SUMMARY:Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nAug 13-17 \nIn 1987\, at the age of just 21\, Marlee Matlin shattered expectations as the first Deaf actor to win an Academy Award® for her groundbreaking performance in Children of a Lesser God. Catapulted into the spotlight\, she seized the moment to challenge an industry unprepared for her immense talent\, emerging as a trailblazer not only as a performer but also as an author and activist. Matlin’s incredible journey continued with standout roles in acclaimed projects such as The West Wing and the Oscar-winning CODA\, all while relentlessly advocating for greater inclusion and accessibility both within Hollywood and beyond its borders. Matlin opens up about her personal and professional struggles – her meteoric rise to fame\, the challenges of navigating a predominantly hearing industry\, the pain of a tumultuous high-profile relationship\, getting sober and years of being overlooked by Hollywood – alongside her many triumphs. (Shoshannah Stern\, 2025\, USA\, 1:36\, NR) \nTALKBACK: Stay after the film on Aug. 13 for a Talkback led by Kevin Finkelstein.\n \nKevin Finkelstein is a graduate student in CU Boulder’s Theatre & Performance Studies program whose work bridges decades of professional experience and a deep commitment to accessible\, socially engaged performance. Over the past 30 years\, Kevin has worn many creative hats—playwright\, director\, composer\, producer\, actor\, and filmmaker—contributing to productions from Manhattan to Miami\, and from NPR to the AFI Silver Theatre. \nAs a hard-of-hearing artist and award-winning theatre maker\, Kevin is passionate about reimagining classic texts for contemporary audiences and using performance as a tool for civic dialogue. His current research in Colorado explores how disability and integrated performance intersect with activism and classical works. Kevin holds a BA in History and Philosophy from UMGC\, where his capstone focused on the Federal Theatre Project\, Orson Welles\, and the so-called Voodoo Macbeth. More information can be found here. \nIf you require a an ASL interpreter for the talkback on Aug. 13\, please contact us at info@thedairy.org.

SUMMARY:Friday Night Weird: Brush of the God
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nAug 15 \nFor decades master model-maker and effects artisan Keizo Murase has crafted memorable monster costumes for the GODZILLA\, GAMERA\, \nDAIMAJIN\, KAMEN RIDER and ULTRAMAN franchises. At the age of 88\, Murase has completed his first feature film as a director\, and it’s truly something special. The kaiju scenes are of course a joy\, but more than it is a generously self-referential rolic\, a venerable master’s reflection on his extensive legacy. In this movie a boy comes across a rabbit\, guardian of a magical brush to prevent the Yamata no Orochi from re-emerging in the modern world. (Keizô Murase\, 2024\, Japan\, 1:14\, NR)

SUMMARY:For The Living
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nCo-presented with the Boulder Jewish Community Center \nFor centuries\, Humankind has grappled with the tension between the two extremes of our nature: Dehumanization and Empathy. Darkness and Light. From the genocide of Indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere to the horrors of the Holocaust to the genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda we realize that numbers make us numb. The more who die\, the less we care. But\, in 2019 another journey from darkness to light called “Ride for the Living” offered a way forward. Originating at the universal symbol of absolute evil (Auschwitz-Birkenau) 250 cyclists from 12 different countries came together to re-trace the WWII liberation path of a single 10-year Holocaust survivor across the Polish countryside to reach a destination symbolizing our common humanity: Krakow\, Poland.\nAlternating between the intimate story of this one Holocaust survivor and the startling similarities among individuals in all genocides\, these parallel journeys bring to life how we can grow our empathy to encompass millions. And how the American educational system has long overlooked—and in 2025 now threatens to whitewash–these stories and the insights we need to prevent future genocides. Inciting the urgent conversation: When will we stop building monuments for the Dead and get busy re-humanizing the Living? When will we finally say NEVER AGAIN and truly mean it? SUMMARY:The [M] Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause
DESCRIPTION:The M Factor Official Film Poster.\n TICKETS\nCo-presented with the Boulder Jewish Community Center \nMenopause remains one of the last taboos in our permissive\, talk-about-everything pop culture. Even though every woman will go through some form of this chemical “reordering\,” menopause is still regarded as a condition or a disease. Most people understand it as just another “normal” phase in a woman’s life\, a phase that is essentially dismissed as a mere bookend in a women’s evolution from puberty through the end of her reproductive years. As a result\, this transition has been inadequately examined. Instead\, menopause has remained largely in the shadows\, whispered in horror stories and overplayed in tasteless punchlines. Women are fed up. It’s time to stand up and be heard! It’s time to create a society in which all women feel prepared for and supported in their journeys to and through menopause\nThis feature-length documentary film centers on the lived experiences of women across the U.S. Cameras follow women into their doctors’ offices\, at work\, and in their homes to expose the challenges they face—including racial biases\, gender-ignorant care\, inequitable structures and systems\, and barriers due to the lack of basic healthcare research. The women featured here open up about their experiences and share their stories of enduring debilitating symptoms while being ignored\, ridiculed and/or shamed—and left untreated. Now there’s a movement to fix the broken system\, change the culture and transform our future. “The [M] Factor” turns the spotlight on the progress being made. With input from emboldened physicians\, healthcare advocates and leaders in the menopause movement\, the film focuses on what is being done to address this public health crisis and offers solutions that can be replicated in medical communities and workplaces across the country. SUMMARY:Don't Lets Go to the Dogs Tonight
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nAug 27-31 \nBased on Alexandra Fuller’s memoir of the same name\, DON’T LET’S GO TO THE DOGS TONIGHT captures the childhood of 8-year-old Bobo on her family farm in Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) at the end of the Zimbabwean War for independence in 1980. Growing up in the midst of this long running war\, Bobo internalizes both sides of the struggle. Conflicted by her love for people on opposing sides\, she tries to make sense of her life in a magical way. SUMMARY:Standing Above the Clouds
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nAug 27-31 \nStanding Above the Clouds highlights the movement to protect Mauna Kea through the intergenerational stories of women in three Native Hawaiian families as they stand for the sacred mountain. The film follows teacher and community organizer Pua Case and her two daughters — artist-activists Hāwane Rios and Kapulei Flores — who have been called to stop the telescope since 2010. Their lives quickly become consumed with frontline actions and court proceedings and immersed in ceremonies and cultural practices. As they face opposition and arrests\, they are joined by a community who have dedicated their lives to protecting Mauna Kea. \nThe film is an intimate journey through the women’s lives both on and off the mountain\, and explores the physical and emotional toll of sustaining a grassroots movement. After nine months of living on the mountain\, blocking construction\, and establishing a frontline camp\, Standing Above The Clouds shows their journey to heal once they return to their homes in March 2020. In the face of challenges and tragedy\, the mountain gifts each woman with hope and strength and the understanding that victory is in standing in unity for sacred places and that healing occurs through the sisterhood they have created along the way. SUMMARY:Save the Farm\, Save the Future Documentary Film & Discussion Panel
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nFarms are disappearing. Solar energy is rising. Could combining the two help save farmers and the planet? Introducing agrivoltaics. \nFarming in America is harder than ever. Drought\, extreme weather\, rising costs\, development pressures\, and labor challenges are pushing farmers to their limits. Meanwhile\, climate change—the very force behind many of these struggles—is driving a surge in demand for clean energy\, transforming farmland into solar fields. Save the Farm\, Save the Future follows Colorado farmers and ranchers—from sheep and cattle ranchers to peach growers and small organic farmers—as they explore agrivoltaics\, a promising new approach that combines solar power and agriculture on the same land. Can this innovation help save farms while meeting society’s need for renewable energy? \nJoin us for the debut showing of this film that was created in collaboration with Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center. Funded in part by the Walton Family Foundation. \nThere will be networking time before the film and Q&A following the showing with the filmmaker Chad Weber and Byron Kominek of Jack’s Solar Garden. \nThe Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center showcases clean energy generation coupled with local food production to educate and inspire our community into taking action to improve land stewardship within solar arrays. https://www.coagrivoltaic.org/

SUMMARY:Buddhist Arts and Film Festival: Women of Tibet Gylayum Chemo – The Great Mother
DESCRIPTION:ALL ACCESS PASS\n TICKETS\nWOMEN OF TIBET: GYALYUM CHEMO – THE GREAT MOTHER\, director Rosemary Rawcliffe \nWomen of Tibet: Gyalyum Chemo – The Great Mother recounts the compelling story of Dekyi Tsering\, the mother of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Dekyi Tsering\, known by Tibetans as ‘Gyalyum Chemo’ or ‘Great Mother\,’ gave birth to 16 children\, three of whom were recognized as incarnate lamas. Weaving anecdotal threads and personal reflections from her children\, grandchildren\, and friends\, with never before seen photographs from their family collections and rare footage of Tibet\, the film offers an intimate glimpse into Tibet’s first family and the woman who inspired them. His Holiness talks about how his mother helped shape the man he is today and the relationship between healthy family and healthy humanity\, and how it all begins with a mothers love. Dr. Marion Woodman (Addiction to Perfection)\, Alice Walker (The Color Purple)\, and Angeles Arrien (The Second Half of Life) link this uniquely Tibetan story to a much broader perspective of motherhood and how the Great Mother lives within each of us. 97 minutes

SUMMARY:Buddhist Arts and Film Festival 2025: O Mother Gaia The World of Gary Snyder
DESCRIPTION:ALL ACCESS PASS\n TICKETS\nO MOTHER GAIA – THE WORLD OF GARY SNYDER\, director Colin Still \nThis is the first feature-length film documenting the life and work of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet/activist Gary Snyder. A participant in the famed 1955 Six Gallery poetry reading in San Francisco that launched the Beat era (and the careers of Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac)\, Snyder later lived and studied in Japan\, becoming a Zen teacher. He is the model for the character of Japhy Ryder in Jack Kerouac’s bestselling novel\, The Dharma Bums. \nThe film was skillfully assembled and remastered from the filmmaker’s original 1990s 16mm footage shot for British television\, and offers a vivid self portrait of the famously elusive poet and essayist through his poems and commentary. Filmed on location at his Kitkitdizzie/Ring of Bone Zendo home in the Sierra and other locations connected with him\, it also features key archival footage from the 1950s and 1960s\, as well as contemporaneous readings and commentary by Peter Coyote\, Jane Hirshfield\, Allen Ginsberg\, Jack Shoemaker\, and Michael McClure\, and a precious interview with Snyder’s late wife Carole Koda. 102 minutes.
