SUMMARY:COmpass REsonance: Norwegian Wood (season finale)
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nNORWEGIAN WOOD with COmpass REsonance\nWhat unfolds when a pristine Scandinavian landscape inspires music\, brought to life by one of the most innovative and exhilarating string ensembles? \nCOmpass REsonance\, known as “Boulder’s CORE\,” presents an unforgettable performance inspired by Nordic Romanticism—and more!\nAudiences will experience the evocative Holberg Suite by the poetic Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg\, interwoven with a bouquet of varied gems. \nThis concert’s repertoire has been expanded with an intermission added\, to reflect that CORE’s December Merry Mozart concert was canceled due to severe winds and loss of electricity across the city. The program is now a combination of works from the canceled December program and the previously planned March program. Therefore\, the first half\nof the 3/21 concert includes Mozart’s dancing Divertimento in F Major\, and his heartfelt Piano Concerto K.413\, featuring Mina Gajić as piano soloist. Shorter works that refresh the aural palate include J.S. Bach’s timeless “Arioso\,” and “Norwegian Wood” by Lennon/McCartney—in a totally new version of The Beatles’ much adored classic. \nPROGRAM:\nSalzburg Symphony “Divertimento” in F Major\, K.138—W.A. Mozart\nLargo from Concerto in F Minor\, BWV 1056—J.S. Bach\nPiano Concerto in F Major\, K.413—W.A. Mozart\nIntermission\nNorwegian Wood—Lennon/McCartney\, arr. Billy Alvis\nHolberg Suite\, Op. 40—Edvard Grieg \nCOmpass REsonance (CORE) is a conductorless ensemble uniting acclaimed musicians from across the U.S. alongside Colorado’s finest talents. CORE’s artists\, comprising concertmasters\, principal orchestral players\, and distinguished quartet performers from Asia\, Europe\, and North America\, gather in Boulder to present innovative musical experiences that transcend time and culture. “COmpass REsonance… has unveiled a bold 2025–26 season as it completes its evolution from the 44-year-old Boulder Bach Festival. The announcement marks the first full season under its new name and mission\, following a legal rebrand in January 2025. The transition reflects a decade of artistic expansion led by pianist Mina Gajić and violinist-conductor Zachary Carrettin\, who took the festival’s helm in 2014. Under their direction\, programming has grown to encompass five centuries of music\, improvisation and cross-disciplinary collaborations. The group’s mission is “to enrich lives with performances of music from across time and cultures and to create distinct learning opportunities for musicians and audiences.” -Daily Camera

SUMMARY:YAGÓDY | January 14 & 15
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nCo-presented by Sunflower Seeds Ukraine \nUkrainian sirens YAGÓDY\, kick off their 2026 US tour with two nights at the Dairy Arts Center. Celebrated for their “primal energy” (Chicago Reader\, March 2025) and hypnotic vocal harmonies\, this quartet blends ethno-ritual performances with feminine resilience for a “dynamic and contemporary” (Minneapolis Star Tribune) experience. \nSince making their North American debut in 2025\, YAGÓDY has continued to evolve their craft\, recently releasing a haunting new single\, “Koni\,” and video from director and cinematographer Olia Klymuk. \nIn this original song inspired by her grandmother\, YAGÓDY founder Zoriana Dybovska sings of “the youth that passes and the love that lives in memories.” The song draws on the image of the willow tree\, a central motif in Ukrainian folklore that acts as an emblem of tenderness\, grief\, and endurance. \nThe three original vocalists of YAGÓDY—Zoriana Dybovska\, Vasylyna Voloshyn\, Tetiana Voitiv\, and accordionist Nadiia Parashchuk—continue their mission to preserve\, reinterpret\, and breathe new life into Ukrainian Ukrainian folk songs and traditions from around the world. YAGÓDY’s repertoire will also include music from their self-titled debut album as well as original singles “Tsunamia\,” which placed in Ukraine’s national Eurovision selection\, and the defiant anthem “BRamaYa.” They will be joined on tour by drummer Teimyraz Gogitidze.

In 2025\, Holly was named a finalist in the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Competition and earned an Honorable Mention in the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter Showcase—recognition that speaks to the quiet power of her work and the stories she’s here to tell.\nFrom a wide-eyed tike delicately pressing the keys of her mother’s upright piano to a seasoned artist taking various stages across the country\, Monica Marie LaBonte has always been guided by song. With the sharp ability to craft tracks that speak to the fragility and wonder of life\, the crystalline vocalist continues to attract listeners with her stirring blend of folk and country. Although her creative pursuits are guided by pure passion\, LaBonte hasn’t escaped critical praise and success. A finalist In the 2018 Songwriter Showcase\, at Rocky Mountain Folks Fest in Lyons\, Colo.\, she continues to impress with her art.

SUMMARY:CANCELED COmpass REsonance: Merry Mozart with Mina
DESCRIPTION:CANCELED \nMERRY MOZART featuring Mina Gajić and Nurit Pacht with COmpass REsonance \nMozart captured the exuberance and joy of life better than any other orchestral composer\, weaving layers of delight into his music—like an exquisite musical confection celebrating life’s wonder\, splendor\, laughter\, and pure happiness. This captivating program invites you to immerse yourself in the sheer beauty and playful spirit of Mozart’s works\, designed to uplift and charm the soul. \nBalkan pianist Mina Gajić brings her distinctive artistry to Mozart’s deeply heartfelt Piano Concerto No. 11 (K. 413)\, collaborating with the acclaimed COmpass REsonance (CORE) and esteemed guest violinist and leader\, Nurit Pacht. This sparkling\, virtuosic\, and delightfully engaging program highlights beloved Mozart compositions cherished by string musicians\, including two renowned Divertimentos that embody the elegance and clarity of the Classical Style. Under Nurit’s expert guidance\, known for her dynamic performances and nuanced understanding of 18th-century music\, CORE’s virtuoso string orchestra skillfully brings Mozart’s sublime harmonic beauty vividly to life. Mina’s extensive expertise with the harpsichord and historical pianos ensures her interpretations brim with agile precision and playful exuberance. \nAdding festive joy to the occasion\, and perfectly timed just days before Christmas\, CORE will premiere newly commissioned arrangements of beloved holiday carols\, reimagined with a delightful Mozartian twist. \nCOmpass REsonance (CORE) is a conductorless ensemble uniting acclaimed musicians from across the U.S. alongside Colorado’s finest talents. CORE’s artists\, comprising concertmasters\, principal orchestral players\, and distinguished quartet performers from Asia\, Europe\, and North America\, gather in Boulder to present innovative musical experiences that transcend time and culture. \nMina Gajić plays with “tremendous insight…remarkable sensitivity and thoroughness…” -StringThings \n“Immediately apparent is the duo’s uncanny unity of phrasing. In each gesture — whether long sequences of harmony\, punchy statements\, delicate lifts\, or phrases that come to a halt at the edge of an emotional cliff – Carrettín and Gajić share the same sense of propulsion\, giving their playing a lean power and an extra glimmer of energy…daring virtuosity\, tossed off with glee.” -Early Music America \n“Pacht’s sultry\, bittersweet playing of the blues movement confirmed that hers is a special artistry.” -London Times \n“Nurit Pacht’s sound is as assertive as her temperament is charismatic. She grabs the music with an extraordinary intensity which gives each note its proper expressive weight.” -Le Temps (Switzerland)

A childhood prodigy born with perfect pitch\, Carson composed complete songs at age four and had his music performed by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at age sixteen\, leading him to be called “one of the most gifted rising stars” by the Edmonton Journal. When he attended the New England Conservatory\, however\, his studies with Joe Maneri\, Cecil Taylor\, and the poet Robert Creeley led him to a dramatic life change: he walked away from music and spent two years backpacking and farming overland from Spain to Japan. After his return to Northern Alberta\, Canada\, he then spent five years designing\, building\, and practicing in a remote strawbale cabin. The musical result was multilayered\, detailed\, meditative\, and harmonious. “I wanted to play the whole piano at once\,” says Carson\, “in the same way that a single breeze can cause the entire forest to dance and tremble in unison.” (performing on Sept 20-21 only) \nOur Mission\nThe Blind Cafe inspires positive social change by fostering connection and compassion through darkness-based experiences\, encouraging participants to engage beyond visual conditioning and social norms. \nOur Story\nFounded in 2010 by Rosh\, inspired by a Reykjavik “cafe in the dark\,” The Blind Cafe Experience has evolved into an internationally touring pop-up event. Partnering with blind ambassadors James Jackson and Richie Flores since 2011\, it combines music\, dining\, and dialogue for transformative social impact. \nTestimonials\n“I cried during ‘Transcend’… knowing I was invisible made it easier to feel. Our table held hands and swayed together!” —Katie Maginnis\, Seattle\n“An incredible\, enlightening experience… professional and impactful.” —Brian Johnson\, The Marquee Music Magazine \n#Music #DateNightIdeas #BlindTasting #DiningInTheDark #BoulderEvents #ColoradoEvents

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMatt Flinner (mandolin)\, Ross Martin (guitar) and Eric Thorin first formed the Matt Flinner Trio in 2006\, and they have become known as an adventurous group that often writes music on the day of any given show\, and performs it that same night. Their new CD on Compass Records\, “Traveling Roots\,” showcases not only their virtuosity\, but their compositional sensibility as well. \n“Flinner continues his reign as perhaps the most exciting and creative mandolin player on the scene today.”—Jazz Times \n“(Flinner) blurs the lines between jazz and bluegrass\, traditional and avant-garde.”—Associated Press \n“Flinner provides the next logical evolutionary step to David Grisman’s unique ‘Dawg’ style\, and does it with a nod to the past and a vision of the future.”—Bluegrass Now \nOpening the show is Martin Gilmore\, singer\, songwriter\, and multi-instrumentalist from Denver\, Colorado. His music bridges traditional folk\, bluegrass\, and original compositions. His rich vocals and masterful guitar playing bring both authenticity and innovation to every song he performs. SUMMARY:Colorado Brazil Fest
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nColorado Brazil Fest offers an exciting evening of live music and dance that celebrates the depth and energy of Brazilian culture. Get swept into the spirit of Brazil with Gisele Duquè\, a bold new voice in Brazilian music\, delivering a night of samba\, soul\, and swing with raw energy and refined artistry. Dance performances by Samba Colorado and Escola de Samba Denver bring colorful energy to the stage. The high energy continues with Dandha da Hora—a masterful singer and dancer from Salvador\, Bahia and longtime member of the legendary Afro-Brazilian group Ilê Aiyê—joined by Ginga band and the powerful percussion of Bateria Alegria — bringing the festival to a joyful and unforgettable close. \nGisele Duquè started her singing career at the age of 12\, performing at restaurants\, private parties\, and weddings. She spent this time hoping and eager for something bigger. When this hope came to fruition\, it took her from her home in Brazil to tour through China\, Hong Kong and Macau. The culmination of this tour saw her living at sea\, performing for Celebrity Cruise Lines and bringing her music to over 13 different countries. Gisele’s all-embracing style has been influenced by the multitude of styles and languages she’s been exposed to\, ranging from bossa nova and samba to soul and rock n’ roll. Singing in Portuguese\, English\, Spanish and sometimes even Chinese\, Gisele is an eclectic songstress whose versatility and charm can carry her from an intimate show with a small crowd to a fervent carnival. \nDandha Da Hora: Born and raised in Salvador\, Bahia\, Dandha Da Hora has been a member of Ilê Aiyê\, one of Brazil’s most important musical and cultural institutions\, since she was 6 years old. A master dancer\, as well as vocalist and percussionist\, Dandha invokes the incredible spirit of Ilê Aiyê and Salvador\, Bahia\, each time she steps onstage. As a lead dancer with Ilê Aiyê\, Dandha toured internationally and has shared the stage with many of Brazil’s most renowned artists such as Caetano Veloso\, Gilberto Gil and Daniela Mercury. In addition to performing with Ilê Aiyê and SambaDá\, Dandha has performed with Casa Samba (New Orleans\, LA)\, SambaDendê and Bateria Alegria (Boulder\, CO)\, Banda Remelexo and Bahia Soul (Bay Area\, CA). \nMembers of Ginga: Cultivated in Boulder\, Colorado and composed of some of the best jazz\, classical and salsa musicians on the Front Range\, Ginga is the powerhouse Brazilian band in Colorado. The members of Ginga accompanying Dandha are Greg LaLiberte (flute\, saxophones\, percussion\, vocals)\, Bill Kopper (acoustic 6 & 7 string guitars\, electric guitar\, vocals)\, Bill McCrossen (Bass)\, Raoul Rossiter (drums\, percussion\, vocals)\, Carl Dixon (percussion\, vocals)\, and Vincent Gonzalez (percussion\, vocals). \nBateria Alegria is the primary performing ensemble of the Boulder Samba School\, composed of 20-30 percussionists and led by Music Director Carl Dixon. The ensemble plays percussion-based styles of music from Rio de Janeiro (samba batucada) and Salvador (samba reggae). The music incorporates a mixture of African\, European\, and indigenous influences and traditions. These styles of music are traditionally played during the carnival parades throughout Brazil and can be heard in Brazilian concert stages\, dance clubs\, neighborhoods\, and soccer matches. \nEscola de Samba Denver with Bella Diva: Escola de Samba Denver is the newest international addition to the original Escola de Samba Sydney in Australia\, directed by renowned performing artist and instructor Sashya Jay. Escola de Samba Denver carries on Escola de Samba Sydney’s dedication to providing progressive Brazilian dance education that is aligned with the latest and evolving dance techniques and artistic styles in Brazil\, with authenticity and respect for the roots of the culture at its core. \nSamba Colorado: Since its founding in 2013\, Samba Colorado is devoted to bringing together people from all walks of life in an artistic\, educational\, and positive community by sharing the joy and beauty of Brazilian culture and dance. They offer classes\, workshops\, dance residencies as well as energetic and exciting performances for both community and private events.

SUMMARY:Cultural Caravan presents Behind the Music: Letters to My Daughters
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJoin us for a special edition of Behind the Music series—a joint presentation by the Cultural Caravan and the Dairy Arts Center. In this intimate\, onstage conversation\, composer Scott Ordway and cellist Josh Halpern\, Artistic Director of the Cultural Caravan will explore the creative process behind Scott’s new composition Letters to My Daughters\, the Cultural Caravan’s first-ever commissioned work. \nWritten as a series of musical and textual reflections to his young daughters\, Letters to My Daughters responds to the political\, environmental\, and social uncertainty of our time. It asks how we speak to the next generation about the future they’re inheriting—and how music can hold space for both personal reflection and broader cultural questions. \nAbout Scott Ordway:\nScott Ordway is a Philadelphia-based composer and multimedia artist whose acclaimed work often blends music\, text\, video\, and photography to explore themes of ecology\, philosophy\, and the American West. His compositions have been performed at Lincoln Center\, Wigmore Hall\, and the Aspen Music Festival by artists and ensembles including Sasha Cooke\, Roomful of Teeth\, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. In addition to his creative work\, he serves as Associate Professor of Music and Head of Composition at Rutgers University. \nJosh met Scott in 2022 while recording his album The Outer Edge of Youth and was immediately struck by the sonorous beauty of his music and its ability to convey powerful stories. Scott’s wide-ranging interests—from rock music to photography to climate issues—inform a musical voice that audiences will find relatable\, engaging\, and thought-provoking. \nFrom Scott: \n“I am drawn to Josh’s expansive and inspiring vision of what a concert series can be\, and the uncommonly deep relationship he envisions between composer\, performer\, and audience. This speaks directly to my mission to create works of beauty and musical refinement in the service of human values that animate me more generally. Additionally\, it is a rare privilege to be asked to curate the concert on which a new work will be premiered\, offering the opportunity to integrate new musical impulses with those works from the repertoire which taught me what a cello could do and how it could sound and speak and sing.” \nBehind the Music offers audiences a rare opportunity to go beyond the performance: to hear directly from the artists\, explore the stories behind the work\, and engage in an open conversation about music’s role in shaping how we understand the world around us.
