SUMMARY:Musical Vanguards at the Dairy presents Taarka
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\n$10 Student Tickets! \nIf you love string music that’s virtuosic\, globally inspired\, and wildly fun live\, don’t miss Taarka. \nOften described as “a collision between Django Reinhardt and David Grisman\,” Taarka blends the precision of a top-tier acoustic string band with the adventurous spirit of a musical travelogue\, drawing on flavors of Gypsy and Eastern European folk\, bluegrass\, old-time\, jazz\, Celtic\, rock\, and beyond. Expect soaring vocals\, jaw-dropping 5-string violin\, and lightning-fast mandolin and guitar\, all woven into songs that tell stories and instrumentals that build into irresistible momentum. As No Depression raves: “Their voices sound fantastic together…Enion is a marvelous violin player\, and David is her equal on mandolin and guitar.” \nTaarka’s calling card is their colorful\, high-energy live show\, the kind that can shift from intimate and cinematic to dance-floor electric in a heartbeat. Come for the musicianship\, stay for the joy\, and leave with melodies stuck in your head. \nTaarka and its members have performed with members of Old and In the Way\, the Grateful Dead\, Phish\, and String Cheese Incident\, and shared stages with Linda Ronstadt\, The Decembrists\, Darrel Scott\, John Cowan\, Yonder Mountain String Band\, Peter Rowan\, Darol Anger\, Joe Craven\, ALO\, Keller Williams\, Danny Barnes\, Steve Kimock\, Taj Mahal\, Widespread Panic\, The Samples\, and Aquarium Rescue Unit\, Kaki King\, Rob Wasserman\, Tony Furtado\, The Motet\, Dan Bern and The Everyone Orchestra.

SUMMARY:Lines | Jan. 23 & 24
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nLines explores resilience and joy as forms of resistance amid occupation and displacement. Drawing parallels between Irish and Lebanese histories and traditions\, the piece weaves together music\, video\, dance\, and the poetry of Khalil Gibran. Lines reflects how cultural traditions evolve through hardship and change by embracing an adaptive and emergent process that blends electronic arts with the folk arts of Sean-Nós and Dabke\, reflexively acknowledging the importance of adaptation to our ancestors’ survival and perseverance. Lines invites audiences to consider how we might further adapt by coming together as a global community to ensure freedom and safety beyond imposed borders.

They’ve released three albums\, the most recent of which\, “Instrumentals\, Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries\,” dropped in May 2024. The band plays a combination of complex original instrumental music and vocal repertoire that spans from trad bluegrass to unlikely pop covers. SUMMARY:How to Starve an Artist | Nov. 7-8
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nHow to Starve an Artist is a short devised theatre piece that looks at the present conditions in this ever-changing world and asks one simple question: Can the artist endure? A group of eight theatre-makers has come together to conduct interviews with Colorado-based Gen Z artists (age 18-27) seeking to answer this question and turn those answers into theatre. This performance includes direct quotes\, inspired poetry\, shadow puppetry\, original music\, and creative movement to explore the issues young artists encounter every day. This collective’s goal is to make you\, the audience\, reimagine what a “starving artist” is\, see how much effort art demands from the artist\, understand why artists make art\, and how to “feed” them.

SUMMARY:Raw Groove Presents: Tenets | Oct. 10-11
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nTENETS is Raw Groove’s movement manifesto\, a full-bodied expression of the principles that guide our creative practice. \nDrawing from the fusion of Black diasporic dance forms such as Afrobeats\, Hip Hop\, House\, and beyond\, this work explores how movement holds memory. Each rhythm\, each gesture\, is part of a lineage: passed down\, reshaped\, and reimagined. These are our tenets. The foundations we return to. The structures we spring from. \nThis dance theatre production reflects our process of learning\, honoring\, and evolving. We study the roots and experiment by intertwining tradition with new patterns that excite and inspire. The result is something alive\, layered\, and future leaning. \nTENETS blends choreography with live music\, spoken word\, and comedy to create a rhythmically rich experience. It is a celebration of movement as philosophy\, memory\, and imagination.
