SUMMARY:VIVA Theater: Our Town
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nOur Town has been described by writer Edward Albee as “…the greatest American play ever written.” First performed in 1938\, the play has gone on to numerous revivals on Broadway and countless productions in theaters large and small around the world. Our Town won the Pulitzer Prize for its author\, Thornton Wilder. \nThe story follows characters in the fictional town of Grover’s Corners\, New Hampshire\, through events such as “Daily Life”\, “Love & Marriage”\, and “Death and Eternity”. The staging is famously minimal\, and the action is narrated by a person known only as the Stage Manager. The deceptively simple structure of Our Town veils the profound question at its heart: What is it like to be a human being during our short time on Earth?\nMoving\, universal\, and complex\, the play reminds us of our shared humanity.

SUMMARY:The Upstart Crow Theatre Company presents Romeo & Juliet
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nThis version of Romeo & Juliet will be set in High Society Regency Era America\, with a Gender Non-Conforming twist. We beg the question: what if queer people were allowed to exist in high society? What if they were allowed to exist loudly? The Montagues\, our richest snobs in society\, hate the Capulets\, who are struggling to maintain their financial and religious status. Are Romeo and Juliet able to bring their families together in harmony with their love\, or will this age-old feud cause the ballroom to become a battlefield? \nThursday\, May 1\, Thursday\, May 8 and Thursday\, May 15 are Name-Your-Price-Nights. Seats are available on a first come\, first served basis. NO reservations needed & NO ticket needed – just show up at the Carsen Theater for the show. Donations of any amount are accepted in the theater in lieu of purchasing a ticket. \nTALKBACK: Sunday 5/11. Stay in the Carsen Theater after the show for an informal conversation with the cast and crew.

SUMMARY:The Conversation Part 1: The Israeli-Palestinian Conversation
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\na play by Ami Dayan\nwith generous input from Sergio Atallah\, the cast\, and many more\nMay 22-31\nThe Conversation is Co-Presented by the Center for Humanities & the Arts\, CU Boulder \nThe Conversation is a 4-part play series set within a community-engagement project that addresses topics considered difficult\, provocative and controversial\, with the aim of finding common ground despite strong conflicting views. The plays dramatize the Center for Humanities & the Arts at CU Boulder’s Difficult Dialogues Series to spark informed and passionately engaged conversations amongst all in attendance\, offering a powerful and unique artistic and socially-engaged experience. \nPart 1: The Israeli-Palestinian Conversation — A live community event born of the belief that – while we may not be able to fix anything\, we certainly cannot fix anything we can’t discuss. \nDirected by Bud Coleman and featuring Elise Collins\, Mark Collins\, Mel Schaffer\, Julia Halaby\, Ami Dayan\, and Sonny Zinn. \nAs the war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza escalates\, and Israeli hostages are still in captivity\, the play gives voice to the conflicting narratives about October 7th\, war crimes\, Two-State versus One State solutions\, America’s role and responsibility\, the rise of Antisemitism and Islamophobia\, the “us or them” conundrum\, ultimately asking\, “Do we want to be proven ‘right’ in never-ending arguments; or ‘wise’ in finding urgently needed solutions?” \nExpect a heated yet productive conversation and a proactive offering for bridging divides. \nA moderated post-show discussion about having difficult conversations will follow each performance.
