SUMMARY:Go West: Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJoin us for an engaging and insightful Artist Talk in the Dairy Arts Center’s McMahon Gallery\, featuring a panel discussion with some of the talented artists behind the Go West exhibition. The conversation will be guided by Melissa Utomo\, co-founder of the Community Roots Arts Festival in Colorado\, as she leads a discussion with artists: Mattie Hanson\, Taiko Chandler\, Margaret Kasahara\, Joon Tajadod\, and Bala Thiagarajan. \nGo West is a vibrant exhibition that celebrates the ongoing legacy and artistic impact of Asian American Artists in the American West. The Go West exhibition showcases a diverse group of AAPI artists whose experiences of diaspora and cross-cultural identity have framed their concept of home\, belonging\, and self-expression. With mediums ranging from metalsmithing and 3D printing to printmaking and photography\, the Go West exhibition features a myriad of powerful artworks that carve out room for new narratives to emerge in the ongoing legacy of the American West. \nThe panel will dive into the artists’ creative processes\, the significance of their work\, and their engagement with themes central to Go West. After the discussion\, there will be a Q&A session where the audience can interact with the artists and gain deeper insight into their practices. \nThe event will take place amidst the beautiful artwork in the McMahon Gallery\, providing a perfect setting for reflection and conversation. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with the artists and gain a deeper understanding of the impactful artwork featured in Go West. \nAbout Moderator Melissa Utomo:  \nMelissa Utomo (she/her) is a co-founder of the Community Roots Art Festival (CRAFt)\, a Boulder-based organization dedicated to uplifting Colorado creatives of color by removing economic and social barriers in the arts. SUMMARY:Slay the Runway- Designing Safe Spaces for Self Expression
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nSlay the Runway is a Firehouse Art Center Fashion Design program offered at no cost to LGBTQIA+ youth and Youth allies to support self expression. Our goal is to be a safe space for teens to explore their own true style in a Gender Expansive and supportive community. \nWith cohorts in Longmont and Boulder\, instructors start with simple projects that improve student sewing and design skills. As confidence builds\, students are challenged to develop their own self identity as they create an outfit for the showcase. At the fashion show\, students unveil something they’ve created in their style and voice while surrounded by a community sharing their life experience. In addition to garment construction and design\, participants will work with make-up artists and choreographers to refine their debuts. While there are fashion camps and sewing classes in the area\, no other local offerings address the issue of safe spaces for gender-expansive youth with this depth of creativity\, and it is the only program that is no cost to participants. \nSlay the Runway’s goal is to create an affirming and accessible space where creativity\, expression\, and positive self-image are celebrated. Involving parents\, youths\, artists\, the LGBTQIA+ community and educators\, we strive to provide access to peer connection\, parent education\, and safe spaces. \nThis program is made possible by SCFD\, the City of Longmont\, OASOS\, CU Boulder\, your donations\, and the never ending enthusiasm and passion of the Slay Team!

SUMMARY:Poetry as Inspiration Workshop: Transforming Words into Visual Art
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nWords give rise to worlds… \nJoin us for an immersive and exploratory workshop that bridges the power of poetry and visual expression. In this special event with artist Veronica Love\, we will explore how poetry\, prose\, haikus\, sonnets\, or verses can serve as a springboard for your creative journey. \nThrough deep listening and sensing\, we will tap into the transformative potential of words\, allowing them to ignite your imagination and fuel new artistic possibilities. Whether drawn to the elegance of a sonnet or the raw simplicity of a haiku\, we will explore ways to express that language visually\, deepening your connection to your own artistic expression. \nIn this workshop\, you will: \n– Use poetry as a creative springboard to ignite your artistic process \n– Experiment with translating poetic language into visual form \n– Deepen your connection to self-expression through the synergy and interplay between words and visual art \nWhat to Bring: \n– Poems: 2-3 of your favorite poems \n– Medium: Your medium of choice (Acrylic\, watercolor\, colored pencils\, pastels\, charcoal) \n– Canvas/Paper: Bring at least two different sizes (5×7\, 8×10\, 9×12\, or 11×14) \n– Tools: A range of brushes and tools \nWhat’s Provided: \n– Acrylic paint\, colored pencils\, assorted art materials \n– Brushes\, sponges\, and painting tools \n– Painting paper \nAbout Veronica Love: \nVeronica Love is a Boulder-based artist originally from Argentina.
