SUMMARY:Mr. Nobody Against Putin | Mar 25-29
DESCRIPTION:Nominee: Best Documentary Feature – 98th Academy Awards \nPasha Talankin is an unlikely hero—a beloved Russian primary school teacher\, known as a mentor and prankster who offers students a safe haven in his office. After Russia invades Ukraine\, Pasha’s role in the school changes dramatically as he is reluctantly drawn into Putin’s propaganda machine. Forced to promote state-sanctioned messages and horrified by the transformation of his school and community\, he struggles with guilt and a sense of powerlessness\, leading him to become an international whistleblower. As the school’s videographer\, Pasha documents intimate and revealing footage of Putin’s regime\, capturing the rise of militarized children’s groups\, repressive laws\, fervent nationalism\, and the recruitment of graduating students to fight in the war. When he learns his own life may be at risk\, Pasha is forced to plan a dangerous escape from Russia. (David Borenstein & Pavel Talankin\, 2025\, Denmark/Czechia/Germany\, 1:30\, NR)

SUMMARY:Magellan | Mar 18-22
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nAt the dawn of the modern era\, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan (Gael García Bernal) navigated a fleet of ships to Southeast Asia\, attempting the first voyage across the vast Pacific Ocean. On reaching the Malay Archipelago\, the crew pushed to the brink of madness in the harshness of the high seas and overwhelming natural beauty of the islands\, Magellan’s obsession leads to a rebellion and reckoning with the consequences of power. SUMMARY:COmpass REsonance: Norwegian Wood (season finale)
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nNORWEGIAN WOOD with COmpass REsonance\nWhat unfolds when a pristine Scandinavian landscape inspires music\, brought to life by one of the most innovative and exhilarating string ensembles? \nCOmpass REsonance\, known as “Boulder’s CORE\,” presents an unforgettable performance inspired by Nordic Romanticism—and more!\nAudiences will experience the evocative Holberg Suite by the poetic Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg\, interwoven with a bouquet of varied gems. \nThis concert’s repertoire has been expanded with an intermission added\, to reflect that CORE’s December Merry Mozart concert was canceled due to severe winds and loss of electricity across the city. The program is now a combination of works from the canceled December program and the previously planned March program. Therefore\, the first half\nof the 3/21 concert includes Mozart’s dancing Divertimento in F Major\, and his heartfelt Piano Concerto K.413\, featuring Mina Gajić as piano soloist. Shorter works that refresh the aural palate include J.S. Bach’s timeless “Arioso\,” and “Norwegian Wood” by Lennon/McCartney—in a totally new version of The Beatles’ much adored classic. \nPROGRAM:\nSalzburg Symphony “Divertimento” in F Major\, K.138—W.A. Mozart\nLargo from Concerto in F Minor\, BWV 1056—J.S. Bach\nPiano Concerto in F Major\, K.413—W.A. Mozart\nIntermission\nNorwegian Wood—Lennon/McCartney\, arr. Billy Alvis\nHolberg Suite\, Op. 40—Edvard Grieg \nCOmpass REsonance (CORE) is a conductorless ensemble uniting acclaimed musicians from across the U.S. alongside Colorado’s finest talents. CORE’s artists\, comprising concertmasters\, principal orchestral players\, and distinguished quartet performers from Asia\, Europe\, and North America\, gather in Boulder to present innovative musical experiences that transcend time and culture. “COmpass REsonance… has unveiled a bold 2025–26 season as it completes its evolution from the 44-year-old Boulder Bach Festival. The announcement marks the first full season under its new name and mission\, following a legal rebrand in January 2025. The transition reflects a decade of artistic expansion led by pianist Mina Gajić and violinist-conductor Zachary Carrettin\, who took the festival’s helm in 2014. Under their direction\, programming has grown to encompass five centuries of music\, improvisation and cross-disciplinary collaborations. The group’s mission is “to enrich lives with performances of music from across time and cultures and to create distinct learning opportunities for musicians and audiences.” -Daily Camera

SUMMARY:Father Mother Sister Brother | March 4 - 8\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nMar 4-8 \nWinner of the Golden Lion Best Film prize at the 2025 Venice Film Festival\, FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER is the eagerly-awaited new film from Jim Jarmusch. Funny\, tender and astutely observed\, this is an intimate exploration of the universal intricacies of family dynamics. Starring Tom Waits\, Adam Driver\, Mayim Bialik\, Charlotte Rampling\, Cate Blanchett\, Vicky Krieps\, Indya Moore\, and Luka Sabbat. Told in the form of a triptych divided into chapters set in New Jersey\, Dublin\, and Paris\, each story concerns the relationships between adult children\, their somewhat distant parent (or parents)\, and each other. Blending remarkable performances from its ensemble cast with Jarmusch’s wry and idiosyncratic observations of everyday life\, the iconic indie director’s latest serves as a timely reminder that you can choose your friends and your lovers\, but you can’t choose your family. Since then\, he has excelled in almost every domestic Comedy Festival\, making the finals or “Best of The Fest” in the World Series of Comedy\, Boston Comedy Festival\, San Francisco Comedy Competition\, Big Sky Comedy Festival\, the SLO Comedy Festival\, and several others. Shortly after being named “Best Comedian in Miami” by the Miami New Times\, Dave packed up his family in a 25 foot travel trailer. This trip was documented in a series of shorts by Nickelodeon.\nAli Kareem is a comedian based in Denver\, known for his sharp wit and engaging storytelling. SUMMARY:Science on Screen® You Can't Miss What You Forget | Feb 8
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nScience on Screen® You Can’t Miss What You Forget \nDigital Memory and the Trouble with Letting Go \nWhat happens when we try to move on\, but our data won’t let us? \nFollowing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind\, Dr. Anthony T. Pinter explores how our online “data shadows” preserve relationships\, identities\, and memories long after they’ve ended. \nAs our lives change\, the data that represents us often doesn’t\, leaving behind digital versions of ourselves that no longer fit who we are now. The potential for incongruence between us and our online “data shadows” can be problematic during life transitions\, or moments where our identities change significantly (e.g.\, coming out\, dying\, becoming a parent\, amongst others). We may move on\, but our data shadows follow; resurfacing data to make recommendations and encouraging us to reminisce. \nMuch like sorting through the physical objects of sentimental value\, our data must also be considered in the aftermath of life transitions; some want to delete everything\, others prefer to keep and revisit it. Drawing from research on romantic breakups and digital identity\, this talk looks at how people decide what to do with the data left behind after a relationship ends. From the framework of two curatorial philosophies – the archivist and revisionist – Dr. Pinter will discuss how people make decisions about what to do with their data\, how they enact those decisions\, and how to contend with the algorithmic curator. \nBlending themes of memory\, loss\, and control\, this Science on Screen conversation asks a deceptively simple question: in a world where forgetting isn’t entirely up to us\, what does it really mean to let go? \nIntroduction & film screening: 1:00 PM; Scientific Lecture 3:00 PM \nThis event is FREE for Dairy Arts Center Members as part of the Science on Screen® series \n  \nABOUT THE SPEAKER \nDR. ANTHONY T. PINTER is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Creative Technology & Design in the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. He holds a BS and MS in Information Sciences and Technology from the Pennsylvania State University\, and an MS and PhD in Information Science from the University of Colorado Boulder. Dr. Pinter’s scholarship focuses on the experiences people have during life transitions and how those experiences are translated into data and online identities. He is specifically interested in how people make decisions about what to do with the data left behind after a romantic relationship ends\, how those decisions contribute to the formation of post-break-up identities\, and how to design systems to support that decision-making. Dr. Pinter’s work has appeared in top-tier journals and conferences such as the ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW). \n \n  \nABOUT THE FILM \n \nETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND \nAfter a painful breakup\, Clementine (Kate Winslet) undergoes a procedure to erase memories of her former boyfriend Joel (Jim Carrey) from her mind. When Joel discovers that Clementine is going to extremes to forget their relationship\, he undergoes the same procedure and slowly begins to forget the woman that he loved. Directed by Michel Gondry\, this visually arresting film explores the intricacy of relationships and the pain of loss. Recently named one of the 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century. SUMMARY:For The Living
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nFor centuries\, Humankind has grappled with the tension between the two extremes of our nature: Dehumanization and Empathy. Darkness and Light. From the genocide of Indigenous peoples of the western hemisphere to the horrors of the Holocaust to the genocides in Bosnia and Rwanda we realize that numbers make us numb. The more who die\, the less we care. But\, in 2019 another journey from darkness to light called “Ride for the Living” offered a way forward. Originating at the universal symbol of absolute evil (Auschwitz-Birkenau) 250 cyclists from 12 different countries came together to re-trace the WWII liberation path of a single 10-year Holocaust survivor across the Polish countryside to reach a destination symbolizing our common humanity: Krakow\, Poland. \nAlternating between the intimate story of this one Holocaust survivor and the startling similarities among individuals in all genocides\, these parallel journeys bring to life how we can grow our empathy to encompass millions. And how the American educational system has long overlooked—and in 2025 now threatens to whitewash–these stories and the insights we need to prevent future genocides. Inciting the urgent conversation: When will we stop building monuments for the Dead and get busy re-humanizing the Living? When will we finally say NEVER AGAIN and truly mean it? SUMMARY:The Little Things That Run the World | Jan 21-25
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nJan 21-25 \nInsects were the first animals to evolve flight nearly 440 million years ago\, and they survived all five of the known mass extinctions since then. They have also been called the “glue of life” on Earth; they literally hold ecosystems together. But\, there is evidence that the pace of decline among insects in parts of the world today is fast approaching the levels of previous catastrophes. \nWhat does this mean for the rest of life on Earth\, including humans? What is causing this extinction crisis? What can be done to reverse the trend? Our new release The Little Things That Run the World introduces viewers to a diverse group of scientists\, nature lovers\, gardeners\, farmers\, and general bug enthusiasts in exploring the importance of flying insects amid rapid declines in their numbers. The film documents the mysteries of the declines alongside creative and heroic human efforts to change the course of evolutionary history. (Doug Hawes-Davis\, 2025\, USA\, 1:45\, NR)
