SUMMARY:The Shrouds
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nJune 6 \nIn an eerie\, deceptively placid near-future\, a techno-entrepreneur named Karsh (Vincent Cassel) has developed a new software that will allow the bereaved to bear witness to the gradual decay of loved ones dead and buried in the earth. While Karsh is still reeling from the loss of his wife (Diane Kruger) from cancer—and falling into a peculiar sexual relationship with his wife’s sister (also Kruger)—a spate of vandalized graves utilizing his “shroud” technology begins to put his enterprise at risk\, leading him to uncover a potentially vast conspiracy. Written following the death of the director’s wife\, the new film from David Cronenberg is both a profoundly personal reckoning with grief and a descent into noir-tinged dystopia\, set in an ominous world of self-driving cars\, data theft\, and A.I. personal assistants. Offering Cronenberg’s customary balance of malevolence and wit\, The Shrouds is a sly and thought-provoking consideration of the corporeal and the digital\, the mortal and the infinite. SUMMARY:Misericordia
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nMay 21-25 \nThe teasingly entwined ambiguities of love and death continue to fascinate Alain Guiraudie (Stranger by the Lake)\, who returns with a sharp\, sinister\, yet slyly funny thriller. Set in an autumnal\, woodsy village in his native region of Occitanie\, his latest follows the meandering exploits of Jérémie (Félix Kysyl)\, an out-of-work baker who has drifted back to his hometown after the death of his beloved former boss\, a bakery owner. Staying long after the funeral\, the seemingly benign Jérémie begins to casually insinuate himself into his mentor’s family\, including his kind-hearted widow (Catherine Frot) and venomously angry son (Jean-Baptiste Durand)\, while making an increasingly surprising—and ultimately beneficial—friendship with an oddly cheerful local priest (Jacques Develay). In Guiraudie’s quietly carnal world\, violence and eroticism explode with little anticipation\, and criminal behavior can seem like a natural extension of physical desire. The French director is at the top of his game in Misericordia\, again upending all genre expectations. (Alain Guiraudie\, 2024\, France\, 1:44\, NR) \n\n

DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nMay 21-25 \nGeorgia O’Keeffe is widely revered as the “Mother of American Modernism” and the greatest woman artist of the 20th century. SUMMARY:My Name is Alfred Hitchcock
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nMay 14-18 \nA century after the debut of Alfred Hitchcock’s first feature\, he remains one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. But how does his vast body of work and legacy hold up in today’s world? Mark Cousins\, the award-winning filmmaker behind Women Make Film\, The Storms of Jeremy Thomas\, and The Story of Film: A New Generation\, tackles this question and looks at the auteur with a new and radical approach: through the use of his own voice. As Hitchcock rewatches his films\, we are taken on an odyssey through his vast career — his vivid silent films\, the legendary films of the 1950s and 60s and his later works — in playful and revealing ways. SUMMARY:FNW: Tall Tales
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nFollowing the recent announcement of their debut collaborative record “Tall Tales” (out 9th May via Warp Records)\, pioneering electronic musician and producer Mark Pritchard and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke are sharing this cinema event in which fans will be able to hear the album alongside its accompanying feature film. An effective third member of the group\, visual artist Jonathan Zawada – whose multi-faceted approach to melding analogue and digital techniques have seen him work alongside the likes of Coachella\, Flume\, The Avalanches\, Royksopp\, and Dua Lipa – directed\, animated\, and edited the “Tall Tales” visual experience. The groundbreaking production was developed over the past few years in tandem with the evolution of the music\, juxtaposing it with uneasy landscapes of natural beauty and the brutal aesthetics of a dystopian world. Through Yorke’s lyrics\, Pritchard’s atemporal compositions and Zawada’s visuals\, “Tall Tales” questions where our insatiable appetite for ‘progress’ might have landed us. A prophetic cinematic experience\, “Tall Tales” has been years in the making\, but delivered right on time. (Jonathan Zawada\, 2025\, UK\, 1:04\, NR) \n

SUMMARY:For The Living
DESCRIPTION:Tickets\nApril 27 & 28 \nIn January 1945\, 10-year-old Holocaust survivor Marcel Zielinski made a treacherous 60-mile journey by foot from Auschwitz-Birkenau to Krakow\, Poland\, in search of his family. Decades later\, 250 cyclists from 12 countries retraced his path in an empathetic mission called Ride for the Living\, created and run by JCC Krakow. This powerful documentary draws parallels between Marcel’s harrowing experience and the cyclists’ journey\, sparking an urgent conversation about our ongoing struggle between dehumanization and empathy. With genocide still occurring nearly 80 years after Auschwitz\, especially with what we are witnessing right now in Ukraine\, this film is a poignant reminder of the importance of saying “Never Again” and truly meaning it. (Marc Bennett & Tim Roper\, 2024\, USA\, 1:57\, NR) \nThis special event will include the attendance of Co-Directors Marc Bennett & Tim Roper and Producer Lisa Effress\, who will introduce the film and participate in a Q&A with Boulder JCC executive director Jonathan Lev after the screening. \n“For the Living weaves in the origins of Ride for the Living\, Holocaust awareness\, and what it means to examine the horrors of dehumanization.” – Danielle Solzman

SUMMARY:The Gullspång Miracle
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nApr 23-27 \nA seemingly divine premonition leads Norwegian sisters Kari and May to buy an apartment in the small Swedish town of Gullspång. To their surprise\, the seller looks surprisingly similar to their older sister Astrid\, who committed suicide thirty years earlier. What’s even more odd is that this doppelgänger used to go by “Lita\,” the same nickname as their deceased sister. What begins as an eerie story of destiny\, faith and improbable coincidence soon becomes a Pandora’s Box of stranger-than-fiction revelations and awkwardly comical mishaps in this “riveting” and “one-of-a-kind” documentary that is “complete with Lynchian echoes of Twin Peaks” (The Hollywood Reporter). SUMMARY:Trusted Sources
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nApr 23-27 \nIn a world where technology disguises misinformation and propaganda as news\, it’s difficult to know what information to trust. Many Americans have been driven away from the news they need to participate in our democracy. Trusted Sources is a new documentary film that shows how we got here\, how to find trustworthy news\, and how to protect good journalism. Ultimately\, finding and protecting good journalism requires some effort from news consumers; this shows how we can identify news organizations that earn our trust by adhering to standards that we expect of them\, how to spot misinformation and stop it from spreading\, and what we can do to protect and support our local news outlets. SUMMARY:The Decline of Western Civilization
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nApr 25 \nFor the month of April\, in conjunction with our PEEK theme of “new punk” we are showing weird punk movies\, old and new. \nFeaturing concert footage of Los Angeles punk bands and interviews both with band members\, the publishers of Slash fanzine\, and with the punks who made up their audience\, the film offers a look into a subculture that was largely ignored by the rock music press of the time. The promotional poster for The Decline (and the record cover of the soundtrack album) featured a close-up frame of Germs singer Darby Crash supine on stage with his eyes closed. Crash died from a heroin-induced suicide shortly before the film was released (the poster was designed before his death). Bands included are Black Flag\, Germs\, X\, Alice Bag Band\, the Circle Jerks\, Catholic Discipline\, and Fear. The Germs’ performance was replicated in the 2007 Darby Crash biopic What We Do Is Secret. (Penelope Spheeris\, 1981\, USA\, 1:40\, NR)

SUMMARY:The Gleaners and I
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \nApr 22 \nCelebrate Earth Day and support Eco-Cycle. Agnès Varda’s extraordinary late-career renaissance began with this wonderfully idiosyncratic\, self-reflexive documentary in which the French cinema icon explores the world of modern-day gleaners: those living on the margins who survive by foraging for what society throws away. Embracing the intimacy and freedom of digital filmmaking\, Varda posits herself as a kind of gleaner of images and ideas\, one whose generous\, expansive vision makes room for ruminations on everything from aging to the birth of cinema to the beauty of heart-shaped potatoes. By turns playful\, philosophical\, and subtly political\, The Gleaners and I is a warmly human reflection on the contradictions of our consumerist world from an artist who\, like her subjects\, finds unexpected richness where few think to look.
